    Custodial history

Material was collected by Elizabeth Shaw (Mrs. C. W. Shaw) while helping her husband to operate a fishing resort on Red Horse Lake, working as a pharmacist, studying Geology at Queen's University, doing genealogy, and taking an active part in civil activities to regulate the water levels on the Gananoque River between the dams at Lyndurst and Marble Rock. The water levels have been in dispute since the 1880s when the water right to some of the dams was purchased by the Gananoque Water Power Co and managed for the benefit of the water powered industries in Gananoque, and later by the Gananoque Power and Electric Co.
