Leeds & the Thousand Islands Archives is a partnership between the Leeds & 1000 Islands Historical Society, the Township of Leeds & the Thousand Islands Municipal Heritage Committee, and the Leeds and the Thousand Islands Public Library. The Archives are managed by these organizations with generous funding support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the <a href=http://www.leeds1000islands.ca/">Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and the 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation.

We are currently temporarily located in the former Front of Escott Township Hall in Escott, and are open Thursdays 1-8 or by appointment.

Mandate
To acquire, preserve, promote and make available the historical record of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.

Statement of Purpose
The Archives administers the documentary collections of the Leeds and 1000 Islands Historical Society and the Township of Leeds & the Thousand Islands Municipal Heritage Committee. The Archives contains four guiding principles in its mandate:

acquire
• The Archives will acquire and actively seek records of enduring value from public and private sources that document the history and development of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and that of the people and organizations important to it.

preserve
• The Archives will provide and maintain appropriate environment, facilities, and resources to preserve and prolong the life of its archival holdings now and into the future.
• The Archives will offer and promote training in the responsible care and handling of archival records.

promote
• The establishment of the Archives enhances the cultural and economic value of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.
• The Archives will promote awareness of Archives, long term sustainability through heritage preservation, and appreciation for the heritage of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.

make available
• The Archives will provide access to its holdings to members of the public and researchers who wish to consult the holdings of the Archives.
